La Notte della Taranta 2010

1-15 August, 2010

La Notte della Taranta is a popular music festival found in Salento, which takes place in several districts in the province of Lecce and Salento and has its peak in August.

The Tour through the villages of Salento ends with the last concert in the beautiful village of Melpignano, which lasts until latest hours of the night in the presence of thousands of spectators. The main contribution is secured by the popular Orchestra Notte della Taranta.

The festival is a project born in 1998, when it was decided to do a big concert in which the local folk music was mixed with other musical traditions, to revitalize and establish, in this way, a different outlook on contemporary musical composition. The initiative has developed a growing involvement in culture during the last 11 years, allowing it to become a leading role on a national scale.

The festival is one of the most looked-forward to events both by the people of Salento, and by tourists alike, all of them attracted by the ethnic music, and the charming cobbled streets and squares of Salento.

This event has made the recovery of the district’s musical heritage possible and has been a great way to promote the area and bring new life into its economy, adding potential to the tourism sector. Just glancing at the attendance of this event over the years: it has grown from 5,000 people in 1998 to over 150,000 in 2008! The final concert in Melpignano was a huge success – one you shouldn’t miss to imbibe the region’s true atmosphere!

This year the festival will honour an art director to host the celebration, and he will be none other than the master, composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi.

So that you can fully take advantage of this unique and amazing event, we offer our splendid and comfortable apartments conveniently located in the center of the city, assuring you a fantastic vacation at a more than competitive price.  Come to enjoy Salento and be a part of this unforgettable event in only the best conditions!
